Thorpe Morieux Village Profile
Thorpe Morieux is based in Suffolk in the ward of North Cosford. At the time of the last census in 2011, there were 232 residents in the village. Babergh District Council produced a Housing & Data Population Profile (updated in December 2015) which is the most current official public record detailing the demographic make up of the village.

Bereavement
The Suffolk Bereavement Support Group provides therapeutic support in a group setting for recently bereaved or those suffering a delayed reaction to loss.
Broadband
We’re pleased to report that significant parts of the village are now benefitting from full fibre to the property, offering gigabit data speeds that are transforming lives, connectivity and the community both at work and at leisure.
BT operate a service availability checker where you can enter your postcode or telephone number to confirm the current status of services to your property, the nearest fibre cabinet that your line is connected to and the expected speed you will be able to achieve.
The issue of connectivity continues to be a key concern for the village and is a fixture on the Parish Council agenda. Progress, developments and discussion on the matter is documented in the Parish Council minutes.
Calendar
There is always something happening in the village and whether you’re thinking of taking part in a village activity or attending a village event, you’re assured of a friendly welcome. The Village Calendar details all local events and diary dates of interest and importance to the village.
Citizen’s Advice Bureau
The Sudbury Citizen’s Advice Bureau based in Sudbury is the closest advice centre to the village. The CAB provides free, confidential, independent and impartial advice as well as campaigning on big issues affecting people’s lives.
The CAB can provide support on a range of issues whether financial, benefit, housing, relationship or employment problems. The website provides further information on services and support available.
Council
The village is served by Babergh Mid Suffolk Council. The council website provides an access point to all services and general information about the council’s activities.
Disability Support
There are a variety of support services and facilities for people coping with disability in its many forms. A selection of organisations providing support and care are detailed below:
NHS Learning Disability Support – provide a range of learning disability services in Suffolk including community based and inpatient and residential facilities. They provide assessment and treatment if you have communication difficulties as well as eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
Sensing Change provide social work, rehabilitation, support and communication to people with sight and/or hearing loss throughout Suffolk.
Suffolk Coalition (SCODP) is a central point of contact for all disabled people and their support organisations within Suffolk.
Fire & Rescue Service
In an emergency, always call 999 or 112.
If you have a non-emergency query, please call 01473 260588. The service is open from 9am to 5pm from Mondays to Thursdays and 9am to 4pm on Fridays.

Fuel
Many of the local petrol stations in neighbouring villages such as Cockfield have regrettably closed down. There are a variety of full service petrol stations in Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury ranging from major fuel brands to supermarket own label.
If you are refuelling containers for garden power equipment, you will be restricted as to the volume that you will be sold, typically two 25 litre jerry cans is the maximum allowed under legislation for safe carriage. Healthcare (Emergency)

The nearest hospital with A&E facilities is West Suffolk – the link provides a map and postcode information for satnav users.
General information about West Suffolk Hospital can be found on the main website but the Information for Visitors page provides helpful advice on parking, disability access and opening hours of non-emergency clinics and facilities.
Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge is an alternative with specialist care facilities including an excellent eye A&E. Emergency A&E facilities are detailed on the Emergency Department homepage.
Healthcare (Non-Emergency)
Call 111 for non-emergency medical advice or refer to NHS Choices.
An index of local general practice surgeries can be found using the search facility on the NHS website which includes all details of available services and whether there is availability to accept new NHS patients.
A list of local dental surgeries is available on the NHS website using the same search facility and the results format also details whether new patients are being accepted.
There are a variety of private and specialist medical practices within reach of the village and if you require specialist services available on the NHS, please use the NHS Services Finder.
The Parish Council is in the process of acquiring a defibrillator which will be located at the Village Hall. Further information on its location and instructions on its use will be provided when the unit is installed.
Housing
If you are looking for a home or any aspect relating to tenancy, home improvement or disabled adaptations Babergh Mid-Suffolk’s Housing portal provides a variety of resources and information to help.
Postal & Parcel Services
There are several postboxes local to the village, you can use this local postbox search to find the nearest postbox to your address based on your postcode. Enter your address in the top right hand side of the search field. Clicking on any of the pins marking the location of the post boxes will also show collection times.
The nearest Post Offices are located in the adjacent villages of Cockfield, Felsham and Hitcham.

A variety of parcel services offer drop off and collect facilities including Collect+ but Local Collect and Amazon Drop Off is available at the post offices listed above. Additionally the East of England Co-op in nearby Lavenham operates a Drop-off point for both Evri and DPD.

In the event of an emergency, don’t hesitate and always call 999, providing as much detail of the incident as you can.

Thorpe Morieux is covered by response officers who attend emergency incidents and officers and Police Community Support Officers from the Babergh West Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

If you need to visit a police station for any reason, Bury St Edmunds Police Station is the closest to the village with public access. The opening times are on the Suffolk Police website.

Power Failure
If you experience a power cut, irrespective of your energy provider, it should be reported to UK Power Networks who are responsible for power infrastructure. The link provides access to a postcode checker to determine whether the power cut has been reported or you can file a report directly.

If you or a member of the community are vulnerable, it is advisable to apply to join the Priority Services Register that UK Power Networks operate. This ensures priority updates and additional support if required. This overview provides further background to the service.

The Christian faith is served by the church of St Mary the Virgin which is located on Church Lane, Thorpe Morieux, IP30 0NW.

We recognise that there are other faith communities active in Suffolk but poor availability of information has limited their inclusion on this page. Roads
The roads in the village can deteriorate badly due to adverse weather and heavy agricultural traffic, particularly during winter months. Ensure that you report any potholes that are a hazard or of concern to Suffolk County Council using the Pothole Report Tool. The tool can also be used to report damaged signage, obstructions or street light failures. Once reported, the tool will provide a status update and a timescale for repair. Customer services can be contacted on 0345 606 6171 if you have further queries.
The Suffolk Highways Twitter account is used to provide up to date information on closures and services but the Roadworks map provides a Google Map based view of roadworks in the area – simply enter ‘Thorpe Morieux’ in the search field at top right to centre the map on the village.

Transport Links
Thorpe Morieux is situated 10 miles south-east of Bury St Edmunds, 9 miles south-west of Stowmarket and 10 miles north-east of Sudbury. The nearest arterial A roads are the A1141 or A134.
There are multiple links into London and beyond from Thorpe Morieux. Train connections into London are typically into Liverpool Street.
Veterinary
While the village does not have a village vet, there is good access to a variety of veterinary practices in Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Newmarket and Sudbury. Selecting any of the town locations will launch a Google Map and display a list of veterinary practices for the area along with user ratings.
The closest all animal emergency medical centres are in Bury St Edmunds.
Waste Services

Water
Anglian Water are the sole provider of water services to the village and in the event of a leak this should be reported online or using the free leakline number: 0800 771 881
The online leak reporting tool provides status and marks the location of any reported leaks and allows a leak to be reported at a specific map point.
